Getting Started

This integration creates a workflow with a Google Sheets trigger and Firebase Admin SDK action. When you configure and deploy the workflow, it will run on Pipedream's servers 24x7 for free.

  1. Select this integration
  2. Configure the New Worksheet (Instant) trigger
    1. Connect your Google Sheets account
    2. Configure Push notification renewal schedule
    3. Select a Spreadsheet
  3. Configure the Save Event to Firestore action
    1. Connect your Firebase Admin SDK account
    2. Configure deliveryId
    3. Configure firestoreCollection
    4. Configure data
  4. Deploy the workflow
  5. Send a test event to validate your setup
  6. Turn on the trigger

Details

This integration uses pre-built, source-available components from Pipedream's GitHub repo. These components are developed by Pipedream and the community, and verified and maintained by Pipedream.

To contribute an update to an existing component or create a new component, create a PR on GitHub. If you're new to Pipedream component development, you can start with quickstarts for trigger span and action development, and then review the component API reference.

Trigger

Description:Emit new event each time a new worksheet is created in a spreadsheet. To use this source with a spreadsheet in a [Shared Drive](https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/9310351), use the **New Worksheet (Shared Drive, Instant)** source instead.

Google Sheets Overview

Some examples of things you can build using the Google Sheets API include:

  • A web app that lets users input data into a Google Sheet
  • A script that automatically updates a Google Sheet with data from another
    source
  • A tool that generates graphs and charts from data in a Google Sheet
  • A service that sends data from a Google Sheet to another API or application

Trigger Code

import httpBase from "../common/http-based/sheet.mjs";
import newWorksheet from "../common/new-worksheet.mjs";

export default {
  ...httpBase,
  ...newWorksheet,
  key: "google_sheets-new-worksheet",
  type: "source",
  name: "New Worksheet (Instant)",
  description: "Emit new event each time a new worksheet is created in a spreadsheet. To use this source with a spreadsheet in a [Shared Drive](https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/9310351), use the **New Worksheet (Shared Drive, Instant)** source instead.",
  version: "0.1.2",
  dedupe: "unique",
  hooks: {
    ...httpBase.hooks,
    ...newWorksheet.hooks,
  },
  props: {
    ...httpBase.props,
    ...newWorksheet.props,
  },
  methods: {
    ...httpBase.methods,
    ...newWorksheet.methods,
  },
};

Trigger Configuration

This component may be configured based on the props defined in the component code. Pipedream automatically prompts for input values in the UI and CLI.

N/Adb$.service.dbThis component uses $.service.db to maintain state between executions.
N/Ahttp$.interface.httpThis component uses $.interface.http to generate a unique URL when the component is first instantiated. Each request to the URL will trigger the run() method of the component.
Push notification renewal scheduletimer$.interface.timer

The Google Drive API requires occasionally renewal of push notification subscriptions. This runs in the background, so you should not need to modify this schedule.

Trigger Authentication

Google Sheets uses OAuth authentication. When you connect your Google Sheets account, Pipedream will open a popup window where you can sign into Google Sheets and grant Pipedream permission to connect to your account. Pipedream securely stores and automatically refreshes the OAuth tokens so you can easily authenticate any Google Sheets API.

Pipedream requests the following authorization scopes when you connect your account:

emailprofilehttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive

Firebase Admin SDK Overview

With the Firebase Admin SDK API, you can build a variety of different
applications and tools. For example, you could build a tool to manage your
Firebase project's users, or a tool to monitor your Firebase project's data
usage. You could also build an app that helps you manage your Firebase
project's settings, or an app that helps you troubleshoot your Firebase
project's data.

    // Before passing the privateKey to the initializeApp constructor,
    // we have to replace newline characters with literal newlines
    const formattedPrivateKey = privateKey.replace(/\\n/g, "\n");

    const app = admin.initializeApp({
      credential: admin.credential.cert({
        projectId,
        clientEmail,
        privateKey: formattedPrivateKey,
      }),
    });

    const db = admin.firestore();
    const deliveryId = this.deliveryId;

    let updates = [];

Action Authentication

Firebase Admin SDK uses API keys for authentication. When you connect your Firebase Admin SDK account, Pipedream securely stores the keys so you can easily authenticate to Firebase Admin SDK APIs in both code and no-code steps.

  1. Enable the Cloud Firestore API on your Firebase account, and make sure you've created at least one collection in the database.

  2. Follow these instructions to generate a private key tied to your Firebase service account. This will generate a JSON file that contains the project ID, private key, and client email that you should paste below.

  3. When entering the private key, please add the full string included in the JSON file, from -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----- to -----END PRIVATE KEY-----, with all newline characters included.
