Shopify Interface Issue in Workflows: Has Anyone Experienced "This App is Not Approved to Use the xxxx Field" Error?

This topic was automatically generated from Slack. You can find the original thread here.

A couple days ago I posted the following int he Pipedream forum and hadn’t heard anything. How that I’m here, I thought I’d post to see if any one else has had an issue with the Shopify interface in workflows and getting a “This app is not approved to use the xxxx field” response from Shopify when querying it.

Hi Tim, sorry I didn’t see that one.

Yes starting with Shopify 2022-10 API version you have to be approved to access customer data.

We do not have this approval. But you may be able to use 2022-07 API version manually to perform this query still.

To echo back to see if I got this right. Shopify is implementing measures to protect customer data. Therefore Pipedream can’t access it at this time. Is there a future where you think Pipedream could? Or too much baggage in order to get approved?

My use case is for my own store and some tracking systems I’m building

I highly doubt they would approve it, because we cannot submit the application on behalf of the many many customers we have using our official integration.

But you can manage your own API keys and webhooks with Pipedream

You can create your own private app, that’s only installed on your store. Then you can use the API keys generated from that app to interact with your store:

Hmmm - this may be a good solution. Let me work on this some more.

Thank you for pointing this path out.

Sure thing hope it helps

OK - brining this topic back up. I’ve created a Shopify App and set the scopes so I can get to the information I want. Back in Pipedream though, I’m not seeing exactly how to set up my own Shopify App connection. There is the Shopify and Shopify Partner, and partner looks a bit more involved. Do I need to discount the current Shopify connection using the Pipedream App? Then do I need to go through each of my workflows and reconfigure for a new app?

Maybe I need to complete delete the Shopify connection in Pipedream and the original pipedream app in Shopify and then will see the right windows for installing own shopify app. Just want to verify before going down this route so I can get things set up and reconfigured quickly

thought I’d ping you on this thread. Just wanted to get clarification on how to configure Pipedream with my own Shopify App. I believe I’ve done the Shopify side, but isn’t clear on what to do on the Pipedream side. I’d like clarity before taking apart what I have built or disconnecting my current shopify account.

Hi Tim, you will need to share that Shopify Partner API key you created in the Partner dashboard with Pipedream when you create the Shopify Partner connected account in Pipedream. We go over the steps in this video:

Ahhh - OK. Will watch the video. Sorry if I overlooked that previously. I was thinking it was setting up an app, not going through the partner side. Let me study this linked video. Thank you.
