definitely, makes a lot of sense. We do codify a lot of that knowledge in our integration code (when we’re building a trigger / action), either in the code / docs / comments, so I’m also trying to get Pi to use that and then maybe even scan the web for other advice… agreed re: the changelog and other non-docs sources… it takes a lot to build up all the latest knowledge / tricks of an API!
Yeah Sweet, thats a super marketable product, what would be awesome (and what we do with github), Is as followed:
• Read the Update/Docs
• Scan Current Deployment
• Adjust Code (either Branch it mainbrand)
• Submit for review with notes on change
• then we can review the changelog and ref where it came from
we are using with Shopify Stores, so we create a new branch, pull the original and then update the theme (based on them changes), review the branch then merge it back into main.
oh interesting, what triggers this process? i.e. when are you making these updates?
manually triggered, as we need to get the themes from shopify (which sucks).
do you do it when Shopify updates a theme?
kind of, we have 3-4 different themes that are updated via the theme store.
we have a heap of custom code on the base that we are using, so cant deploy the standard version without porting all the customisation over to the new theme each time.
so we download the update, feed in the changelog (in the shopify theme store webpage), adn then it reviews changes and suggests edits based on the updates of features
ah I see, that’s neat
yeah its pretty handy, espcially this time of year where there are updates coming out all the time, I dont have the time to port across custom work to a new theme every 2 weeks.
Do you ever blog? This would make a great post… I can think of a million use cases where I’d want to use this for our own internal stuff
not really, honestly this is the second time someone has asked me this week…
prob should look at it, as we do a lot of weird things
maybe next year lol
lol I know… we have such a big queue of posts we want to write. Code is a lot easier to write than English… always takes too long to get a good post out
oh yeah exactly… im actually more fearful of people asking a million questions tbh, like I dont mind sharing thinking but people dont seem to understand that its a bit of a logic flow, not a solution for all cases (if that makes sense)
yes 100%
maybe I could become one of those insta Guru’s and charge people $1000’s for pretty much nothing
